Elsoms is supporting the development of industrial hemp production in the UK through seed supply, research and on-farm evaluation. As part of the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping, we are working with breeders, researchers and industry partners to trial varieties and better understand which hemp varieties are best suited to UK conditions and farming systems.

Industrial hemp offers several potential benefits within arable rotations. As a natural fibre crop, it can contribute to soil health, requires relatively low pesticide and fertiliser inputs, and offers opportunities for carbon capture through renewable materials. Hemp fibre and seed also have growing demand across industries including textiles, construction, composites and automotive materials, creating potential new markets for UK growers.
